Frequently we are asked why senior class trips (graduation trips) are mostly in mid April and May. The simplest way to explain is the busiest & most expensive times resorts across the USA experience is after Memorial Day and we need to deal with more extreme weather issues in March; so…… mid-April and May are great times to have your class trips.
Although a few high schools wish to have their very own designated “Spring Break” time, which is often in March, March can be one of the trickiest times to schedule a group or class trip. You will see that weather often is a big issue. March can still bring forward several horrific rain storms, even snow storms and it is rather cold in March, even early April.. dealing with the crowds and costs of travelling around Easter is not recommended. > Whereas in mid-April/May you have higher temperatures and can enjoy going out and about at each destination. Also, an additional problem that comes with March and early April trips is college “Spring Break”. This can typically lead to much bigger crowds, issues with damages to properties, and sometimes high school students getting into unforeseen and unplanned trouble.
As for after Memorial Day, rates tend to go up and places tend to get much busier. You will find that several destinations take advantage of what we call this “peak time frame” to bring in more revenue whereas in mid-April and May the rates are more reasonable and all venues extend to us “Group Planning Rates”. These higher rates are charged on March and Easter trips as well. As mentioned above, after Memorial Day is super busy as well. The June/July time frame is when families, especially with little children, typically flock to water parks and amusement parks. Schools let out for summer and parents need activities to occupy their children with, therefore crowds and lines are exceptionally large and much younger, which makes your senior class trip experience less enjoyable as no one likes to wait for long periods of time.
Mid-April and May class trips/group trips offer the full experience that students are looking for. Whether you’re going to the Poconos or Virginia Beach, Orlando or The Smoky Mountains or any of our offered destinations across the USA….The lower cost, the relaxation of not having large crowds and the weather scares that may cancel one of your events/activities makes for a more enjoyable and memorable time.
